MUSIC promoter and philanthropist, Mahwindo, mobilised payment of the medical expenses of Andile Tawananyasha Mauka (8), who narrowly escaped with her life, after a violent attack by her mother’s jilted lover.
The savage attack resulted in the death of Andile’s younger brother, Emmanuel (5).
Andile was stabbed with a knife by her mother’s married ex-lover, Thomas Nyamhunga, but survived the attack.
Mahwindo successfully lobbied Panjap Motors to settle Andile’s medical bill after she was detained for non-payment after being discharged.
Brighton Ushendibaba of Panjap Motors paid $1 974 954.
Michael January, Andile’s uncle, expressed gratitude for the support received from Mahwindo, the local community, including Dynamos supporters and various individuals and institutions.
“I want to confirm that the medical bill for Andile’s treatment has been settled. We thank sister Mahwindo and her friends for coming to our rescue.
“We want to take this opportunity to also thank the whole nation for standing with the family in our time of sorrow,” he said.
Mahwindo runs various programmes under her charity organisation, Mahwindo Foundation.
She has in the past donated food, blankets and clothes to poor people in Seke.
“The tragedy in Mufakose touched all of us because these kids have no say in the relationships of their mothers or fathers or step fathers,” she said.
“They are only kids and they deserve our love and support.
“God defeated the devil by ensuring that Andile would survive and that is more important than anything else.”
