The school reportedly introduced a new uniform recently.
Disgruntled parents who spoke to Chronicle said the school staff including the school head, a Mrs. Pangwari have since opened a backyard uniform shop where they were sewing uniforms and selling them at inflated prices.
The introduction of a new school uniform by the school is, according to parents, meant to force them to buy uniforms from the school authorities’ shop.
They said the new uniform cannot be found in other shops in town.
“This is meant to fleece parents who are being forced to buy expensive uniforms from the school shop as the uniform is not available in other shops,” said an irate parent.
The parents said the price of the new school uniform was being inflated since the school enjoyed some kind of “monopoly”.
They said the uniform was selling between US$30 and US$35.
“We are thus being forced to fork out between US$30 for a shirt and short or US$35 for the trousers and shirt. This is a pre-condition for our children to secure Form One places at the school,” said another parent.
The parents said the development has left them in a difficult situation as they were also expected to pay in full, the tuition fees and other levies.-Chronicle
