Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa has commissioned the first Diagnostic Radiology and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Centre that is expected to improve healthcare delivery in Zimbabwe.
The state-of-the-art centre provides a wide range of radiology services including general X-rays, ultrasound scans and CT scans.
The centre is owned by Dr Dumisani Ndlovu, a specialist radiologist and his wife Dr Ntokozo Ndlovu.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Dr Parirenyatwa said Government was committed to providing quality healthcare delivery.
“We are grateful to people who supplement Government efforts in providing quality healthcare. We want this centre to be exposed to the rest of the population. On behalf of Government l would like to thank you Dr Ndlovu for doing this work for Zimbabwe.
“I want to recognise the fact that Dr Ndlovu has observed glaring inadequacies in the specialist field of diagnostic radiology in this country, particularly as far as training radiologists is concerned. We have up to 15 radiologists in the country. It is true that in a progressive country where the development parameters are well placed, teaching hospitals must be equipped to provide high-level training for diagnostic radiologists,” he said.
He also said Government has invested in local universities to produce medical students and doctors to enhance medical practise in the country.
“As we move further into the new dispensation of national governance, and as we open new frontiers of cooperation and collaboration with our global partners, this mission will stand accomplished.
“Government has played a critical role in investing in local universities to produce medical students and doctors who are tributaries to medical specialisation that enhance medical practises,” he said.
Dr Ndlovu commended the Government for enhancing the ease of doing business as shown by fruitful engagements with the Ministry of Health.
