Parks sets up standby team to attend to reports on stray lions

THE Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has set-up a standby team following reports that three stray lions were spotted in the western suburbs.Parks and Wildlife area manager Givemore Mukuya said the team had not yet received another report in relation to the lions.

“Our teams are ready for anything but as far as we have investigated there is still no solid evidence of the lions. There are teams ready to receive phone calls and act in the event that someone sees the lions,” Mukuya said.

He urged residents to make official reports whenever they see the lions. The lions were first reportedly spotted last week at a bushy area near Entumbane suburb and later in Cowdray Park. The stray lions have raised fears in Entumbane with a number of schools in the area warning pupils about the lions.

Last year, a stray lion caused panic and confusion in the eastern suburbs as it was said to be moving from one area to another. The lion was, however, never located.
