Parliament acquires ISO 9001 certification

the world to receive full certification in service delivery under the International Standards Organisation. The ISO 9001: 2008 certificate was presented to Clerk of Parliament Mr Austin Zvoma by Standards Association of Zimbabwe director General Mrs Eve Gadzikwa at a ceremony held in Harare.
Speaking at the ceremony Mr Zvoma said the Parliament of Zimbabwe had strived under difficult circumstances.
“We have not sat back and allowed resource constraints to be an excuse for a business as usual approach,” said Mr Zvoma.
“We draw inspiration from our knowledge of the abundance of skills and talents in our country’s most precious resource endowment, the human resources.”
Mr Zvoma said parliament was geared towards achieving innovative ideas in service delivery to the public.
“In 2003 and 2004 we conceived and developed an informatics database which captures socio-economic profiles of the whole country from the ward, constituency and district up to province level for the whole country.
“The database enables the legislators to access information on important issues concerning the constituency or the country,” he said.
Mrs Gadzikwa commended Parliament of Zimbabwe on attaining ISO certification.
“The certificate awarded to parliament is internationally recognised. Your achievements give assurance of good management and consistency to provide quality service,” she said.
She urged parliament to maintain standards in good management to retain public confidence. The ISO certification comes on the backdrop of the launching of parliament’s five-year Institutional Strategic Plan last week on Wednesday.
The plan is geared towards ensuring parliament’s ability to meet its constitutional mandate to legislate laws, public representation and oversight roles.
Supreme Court judge, Mrs Rita Makarau, Deputy Chief Secretary to the Office and Cabinet and Cabinet retired Colonel Christian Katsande attended the certification ceremony.
