Parly probe into Mangoma’s conduct set to resume

Assembly and Senate adjourned to September 4.
In an interview yesterday, committee chairman and Rushinga Senator Cde Damien Mumvuri, confirmed the continuation of inquiries into reasons behind the minister’s failure to appear before the committee on three occasions.

“We adjourned to next month and we know during the period a new session may be opened but we inquired from Parliament on what would happen in such a scenario and were told even in a new session we can still revive our investigations,” he said.

The Fourth Session of the Seventh Parliament was initially set to end in July when President Mugabe was expected to officially open the Fifth Session.

The event was, however, postponed indefinitely.
In the event of a new session commencing, any business carried out in the previous session falls away.

There are, however, provisions in the Parliament’s Standing Orders that allow the revival of any business that may be of interest
Some of the issues the committee wants to raise with Minister Mangoma have to do with Zesa’s loadshedding on wheat farmers that the committee said was affecting national food security.

The other issues included the closure of Chisumbanje Ethanol Plant that has resulted in the loss of jobs of more than 4 000 workers.

The US$600 million ethanol project was expected to employ over 10 000 people at the peak of its operations.
Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara is expected to lead a Cabinet committee visiting the project today.
