The two leaders were remembered during motions to honour them. Mhondoro-Ngezi MP, Cde Bright Matonga (Zanu-PF) said Gen Mujuru was a national hero as evidenced by people from the entire political divide who thronged his funeral wake.
“If you are a national leader, you become a national figure for everyone, not only your family,” said Cde Matonga.
On Minister Mukonoweshuro, Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara, said he was special in that he could match academic excellence with social responsibi lities.
“He was a reservoir of wisdom. It’s something that Zanu-PF, MDC and Ndonga must appreciate,” he said. In Cabinet, said the DPM, they benefited a lot from his contribution.
The DPM chronicled the life of Minister Mukonoweshuro, his life as a student, as a lecturer, saying he was at one stage arrested alongside university students after being accused of inciting them.
“When we were arrested as student leaders at the UZ, myself, Honourable (Chikomba East Edgar) Mbwembwe, Professor Mukonoweshuro was one of the lecturers arrested accused of inciting us,” he said.
Mbire MP, Cde Paul Mazikana also paid tribute to Minister Mukonoweshuro.
He, however, drew the ire of MDC-T legislators when he said Prof Mukonoweshuro had an addiction to cigarettes.
