PASSENGER TURNS PIRATE! Driver’s Baby Quantum stolen at high speed

B-Metro Reporter

IN a dramatic twist straight out of a crime movie, a commuter omnibus driver lost his Toyota Baby Quantum to a crafty thief, who was sitting quietly in the front seat before making a wild getaway with the engine running!

The incident happened on Sunday night around 8:30 PM when the 30-year-old driver from Nguboyenja stopped outside Food For Less, at the corner of 11th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo, to get change.

The vehicle, registration number AHA 0109, is valued at US$13 500 and was last seen heading toward Plumtree.

“Leaving your vehicle running is extremely risky,” warned Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele. “We strongly advise against it. Criminals are always watching.”

The driver tried to chase the suspect using a hired taxi, but the thief disappeared into the night.

Police are calling on anyone with information to come forward. For now, Bulawayo’s streets remain a hunting ground for opportunistic car thieves.
