LUVEVE turned into a real-life action scene on the night of May 14 when armed robbers stormed a local sports bar, fired a warning shot, and vanished with cash and a cellphones, leaving patrons shaken and a bartender traumatised.
It was around 10PM when two men walked casually into the bar, bought a quart of Castle, and began sipping like any other late-night drinkers. But the scene took a deadly turn moments later.
“They looked like normal customers,” said the shocked 35-year-old bartender from Nkulumane 12. “Then suddenly, one pulled a gun and pointed it straight at me.”
According to police, a third suspect was standing guard at the entrance after emerging from a suspicious white Honda Fit parked about 30 metres away. As tension built inside, a gunshot echoed outside, the signal to strike.
“One of the men pulled out a pistol and fired a shot in the air,” confirmed Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Bulawayo police spokesperson. “The security guard immediately hit the ground, terrified.”
The robbers swiftly demanded cash and valuables. They made off with US$180, R600, and a Samsung A13 cellphone, total loot valued at US$340.
The gang then fled in their getaway Honda Fit, disappearing into the night before police could respond. No arrests have been made and nothing has been recovered.
“We urge all bar operators to close on time and remain alert,” said Inspector Msebele. “These criminals are ruthless and well-organised.”
If you saw anything or know who’s behind the Luveve Bar heist, police want to hear from you.
