A NUMBER of white garment churches are expected to hold their traditional Passover feast starting today.

Most white garment churches observe April 14 as a holy day on which they have Holy Communion.

Among the churches expected to have Holy Communion are Mugodhi Apostolic Faith, Bethsaida Apostolic, Rugare Apostolic Fellowship, Pentecost Apostolic Faith and Zviratidzo Zvevapostori.

They believe the Passover, known as the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the biblical Old Testament, stretches from April 7-22.

Rugare Apostolic Fellowship Church member and gospel musician, Richard Magaya, told H-Metro he would be travelling today for their Passover feast in Nyamburi village, Murewa.

“We have our dates for Passover and we will gather beginning Thursday,” said Magaya.

“Such feasts helped in moulding our characters and Christian life.

“Ndiyomisangano yakabereka Vabati vaJehovha saka tinowana nguva yekumbozvitsaura tichinyengetera pamwe nekuzvinyima zvekudya,” he said.

Pastor Rosemary Mangwanya of the New United Apostolic Faith Church said that they were no longer observing the Passover, but Holy Communion.

“We used to gather for seven days where we do not eat any food with yeast and beverages, according to Jewish customs,” said Pastor Rosemary.

“From studying the word, we came to understand that most of the traditional feasts were pointing to the birth of Jesus Christ.

“Hence, we now partake of Holy Communion without observing the Jewish customs where they would abstain from food with yeast.

“Jesus Christ has already done everything for us at the cross.

“We are now under grace and not under the law, for the law kills.

“We are to gathering from Friday until Sunday to equip saints with the power and mystery of the Cross.

“We are to gather for fellowshipping and equipping each other for the work of the Christian service,” said Pastor Rosemary.

Victorious Family Church International leader, Kudakwashe Jose, said their Easter conference would be in Harare and they expect other members from outside the country to come for the feast.
