A Pastor with Bethsaida Apostolic Church on Wednesday walked out of court free after the man whom he allegedly sodomised withdrew the case saying they were close relatives.
George Mundawarara (52) was accused of sodomising Itai Betera (21) whom he is looking after at plot number 14 Maranatha in Tynwald North.
Mundawarara was facing two counts of aggravated indecent assault charges when he appeared before magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.
“I am withdrawing my case against the accused person because he is my guardian and we are closely related,” said Betera.
The State, led by Ms Molleen Murozvi, alleged that sometime in September, Betera asked Mundawarara if he could assist him with school fees and on the same day Mundawarara invited Betera for a bath.
The State alleged that while in the bathroom, Mundawarara grabbed Betera by the back of his head and forced a sweet into his mouth.
It is alleged that Betera immediately felt dizzy and Mundawarara started fondling his private parts.
After bathing they both went to a tuckshop where they were supposed to sleep that night and the latter allegedly ordered the former to remove all his clothes and retire to bed.
While Betera was asleep it is alleged that Mundawarara started kissing and sucking his nipples and manhood.
Mundawarara allegedly sodomised him.
The state alleged that on the third day Mundawarara and Betera attended a prayer session in Waterfalls and they slept in the same room again. During that night the latter was awakened by Mundawarara who was sodomising him.
It is alleged that Betera sustained injuries and bled from the abuse. He then revealed the abuse to his friend Jairos who then informed a Mr Musa the priest and owner of the plot.
Betera made a report to the police leading to Mundawarara’s arrest.
