A 44-YEAR-OLD Glen View pastor has been sentenced to an effective nine months in prison for indecently assaulting a 19-year-old congregant.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on December 8, 2025, at around 10.30am after the offender sought permission from the victim’s mother for her to assist him in cleaning the church.
Upon arrival, the pastor hugged the complainant and began to inappropriately touch her. Despite her protests, he continued assaulting her and declared his affection for her.
The assault was interrupted by a knock on the church door. The victim later reported the matter to her mother, leading to the offender’s arrest.
The man was convicted by the Mbare Magistrates’ Court and initially sentenced to 12 months in prison, with three months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
In a statement, the NPAZ condemned the abuse of trust, highlighting that religious leaders are expected to uphold the highest moral standards.
“A pastor is a respected and trusted member of society, and the offender took advantage of the victim by exploiting the trust bestowed on him,” read the statement
