KELVIN Kaindu is a pastor and is aware that miracles can happen − after all that’s what he has read in the Bible time and again.
The Zambian coach knew that he needed a miracle to keep Dynamos in the Castle Lager Premiership, when he was appointed to take over a club which was reeling from one crisis to another and was losing the appetite to fight.
The Glamour Boys, the country’s biggest and most successful football club, looked a pale shadow of themselves as they struggled to even win a match, let alone score a goal.
They had fired MaBlanyo and Saul Chaminuka did nothing to change their fortunes and, instead, disgraced himself when he decided to lead his troops to force an abandonment of their league match against FC Platinum at Mandava.
When he was suspended by the PSL for leading that rebellion, it opened the door for the DeMbare bosses to also sack him and gamble on Kaindu to save their sinking ship.
And, boom, for the first time this year, DeMbare look like a proper football club and, even though they are still stuck in relegation trouble, there are some encouraging signs they can battle their way to safety.
Of course, they still have to climb Everest and if they need any reminder that this is still a tough battle, then they just need to look at the identity of their next opponents − a Scottland team which is now playing to their potential.
Yesterday, Kaindu’s men faced tricky opponents who also are fighting to avoid relegation − Rodwell Dhlakama’s Greenfuel.
There are no easy opponents at this time of the season and Greenfuel were full value for going into the break without any scratches after a first half which lacked quality. But, once Jairos Kasondo powered them ino the lead just after the interval, there was no turning back for the Glamour Boys.
Kasondo was also on target in the 3-0 romp over bottom club Kwekwe United.
Temptation Chiwunga then scored the insurance goal from the penalty spot.It was the fourth straight win for the Glamour Boys, including three straight victories in the league.
The Kaindu impact has been huge, especially when one considers that, at one stage of the season, DeMbare had scored just six goals.
Now, they are getting good figures with regularity and their defence has also become tight and this was their third clean sheet in their last four games.
Dynamos now have 25 points and have moved within two points of Greenfuel and within three points of Manica Diamonds, who were held to a 1-1 draw by MWOS at Sakubva, and Yadah.
