THE payment of Warriors coach Callisto Pasuwa’s salary is now going on smoothly, two months after it triggered a storm when it was revealed he had not been paid for two months, with the national team gaffer having received his April salary.
As agreed between ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa and his financier Wicknell Chivayo, Pasuwa’s April salary was paid through a BancABC escrow account set up by the businessman. There had been fears that the payment of Pasuwa’s salary could, once again, be a huge talking point which could sway focus from the big game against Malawi at the giant stadium next month.
Pasuwa’s manager Gibson Mahachi confirmed that the coach has since been paid his April salary.
“He has managed to get his salary for April and we have no problem,” said Mahachi.
The Warriors will battle the Cranes of Uganda on May 31 in a friendly international at the National Sports Stadium as part of their preparations for the game against Malawi.
The Cranes, who have a date against Botswana, will camp in Harare for two weeks from May 20 as they seek to acclimatise ahead of their battle against the Zebras.
Uganda is sitting on second place in Group D with seven points. The Warriors have moved one place on the FIFA rankings to number 126 while they are 39th in Africa in the latest table released by the world football governing body.
Zimbabwe lead their group in the 2017 Nations Cup qualifiers, with a three-point cushion, after a sensational 4-0 destruction of Swaziland in their last qualifier at the National Sports Stadium on Easter Monday.
