Dynamos 2-0 Chiredzi
DYNAMOS coach Callisto Pasuwa tore into his striker Fabrice Mbiba and urged him to be more professional as the Glamour Boys powered to another crucial win in defence of their Castle Lager Premiership championship crown at Rufaro yesterday.
With major rivals Highlanders being held to a goalless draw by Buffaloes at Hartsfield yesterday, in Moses Chunga’s first game in charge of the Mutare side, the Glamour Boys stretched their advantage over Bosso to three points.
Bosso, who came into this match after an impressive away win over FC Platinum, will feel these were two points dropped, than a point won, especially after DeMbare won their match at Rufaro.
Mbiba, the Democratic Republic of Congo player, was introduced in the second half when he replaced double-scorer Rodreck Mutuma in the 56th minute.
Mutuma’s goals, which Chiredzi players felt were scored from off-side positions either side of the break, consolidated Dynamos’ position at the top of the log.
The self-styled “Mad Prince” was making a return to the Glamour Boys line-up after his infamous boxing brawls with Black Rhinos’ Obey Gada and skipper Murape Murape.
Mutuma atoned for his bad boy image when he finished off a move from Sydney Linyama in the 10th minute, from what appeared to be an off-side position, before he increased the lead when he got to the end of a pass from Ronald Chitiyo in the 54th minute.
On both occasions Chiredzi felt referee Rugare Kusosa should have disallowed the goals and the matters reached boiling point after the second goal when the visiting players’ mobbed first assistant Edgar Rumeki as they protested.
Gift Kwaramba was shown a red card while Chiredzi skipper David Sengu got a yellow during the melee.
Mutuma then made way for Mbiba.
Yesterday, Mbiba had been a hot subject on social media after his alleged sex tape with a prostitute from the Avenues went viral.
While he delighted the crowd with his touches, Mbiba appeared to be playing to the gallery and this did not go down well with his coach.
“He is one boy who is a professional player and he needs to be serious. We brought him to score goals and he is toying with the ball in front of goal.
“We need to talk to him about it,” said Pasuwa.
With a more precision, Pasuwa believes the Glamour Boys should have scored more goals and warmed up the chilly afternoon.
Simba Sithole, Ocean Mushure and Ronald Chitiyo and Blessing Moyo all had chances and good efforts but failed to convert.
“We have to move a game by game and we will see as the race progresses,” said Pasuwa.
On Saturday, DeMbare will engage Highlanders in the inaugural edition of the TM Pick n Pay Challenge Cup and Pasuwa said he will have to assess his players today and tomorrow.
Dynamos lost Devon Chafa to a groin strain during warm-up while his replacement Sydney Linyama received a cut on the head after colliding with a Chiredzi player.
Gishon Ntini, the Chiredzi coach, yesterday chose to be diplomatic.
“We played well and Dynamos also played well but somewhere, somehow, we lost. It’s my feeling that both goals were two clear off-sides.
“But I am not taking anything away from Dynamos because they played well but we dominated and those two goals and the red card were unfortunate.
“The field was not level for us,” said Ntini.
The defeat pushed Chiredzi closer to Division One.
“My players are playing quality football. Whether they survive or not, we can see that they are doing their best.
“With this kind of officiating, it is now difficult to survive. But we will keep on fighting until the last game of the season and see how it goes,” said Ntini.
Veteran David Sengu was outstanding for Chiredzi in one of the best performances by an individual this season.
