RESULTS of paternity tests have exposed a 29-year-old Bulawayo woman who was demanding more than $300 maintenance a month from a man she claimed was her daughter’s father.
Michael Mtisi, 56, a married father of six, had a relationship with Zanele Ndlovu in 2002 which lasted for less than a month.
Mtisi was shocked after he was dragged to the maintenance court a decade after that relationship, with Ndlovu demanding $325 a month for the upkeep of their alleged 12-year old daughter.
Ndlovu said after a brief relationship with Mtisi, she discovered that she was pregnant but when she told him, he denied responsibility.
When she applied for maintenance, Ndlovu challenged Mtisi to go for paternity tests if he doubted that he was the father.
Mtisi opted for the tests which cost him $1,350. The results of the tests which showed he was not the father, were yesterday read in court by magistrate Vivian Ndlovu.
“Paternity results show that respondent is not likely to be the father of the child. Accordingly, the maintenance order is discharged,” said magistrate Ndlovu.
The ruling comes a year after magistrate Charity Maphosa ordered Mtisi to pay $50 a month, pending the outcome of the paternity tests.
