Zimbabwe National Army schools games end

MASVINGO High School’s boys football team won the fifth edition of the Zimbabwe National Army’s Schools Merit Sports Games after beating Magunje 3-0 in the final played at HQ One Brigade Barracks in Bulawayo.
The five-day competition had Inkomo, Induna, Masvingo, Ngezi and Magunje as well as 12 primary schools competing.

The senior girls’ soccer tournament was won by Inkomo who beat Ngezi 3-2 in the final.

For coming first, Masvingo and Ngezi won soccer kits.

In primary schools’ football final, Ngezi won the girls’ category beating Inkomo 1-0, with Dzivaresekwa taking home boys’ trophy after edging Masvingo 3-0.

In netball, Induna won the seniors’ final 23-18 against Magunje with Indlovu Iyanyathela losing 15-14 to Three Brigade in the primary schools’ category.

Speaking at the official closing ceremony, the Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant General Philip Valerio Sibanda thanked corporate organisations that made the Games a success.

“This would not have been possible without the support and efforts of many individuals and corporate bodies, who gave of their time, money and effort to ensure the success we have witnessed. I thank you all, individuals and cooperates for your continued support,” said Sibanda.

Headquarters One Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Thomas Moyo encouraged the nation to take sport seriously as they yield positive benefits.

“Sport is a key component of physical, educational and economical development with countries like Kenya and Ethiopia earning valuable foreign currency. For our country to achieve that promotion of sports should start at primary school level,” said Moyo.
