Patron (26) ‘rapes’ elderly paralysed shebeen queen

Court Reporter
A 64-year-old partially paralysed shebeen queen from Bulawayo’s Makokoba suburb was allegedly raped by a 26-year-old patron, who had spent five days at her house.
The elderly woman is reportedly admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital following the alleged rape as she allegedly bled severely after the incident.

She stays with her grandchildren and reportedly crawls following a stroke she suffered some time ago.
The woman jointly operates a shebeen at her house with her daughter.

The alleged rapist, Nobert Zingovo, whose given address is 333 Emganwini was reportedly a regular patron at the shebeen.
He allegedly asked for a place to sleep and was offered the kitchen in which he slept for five days while the elderly woman slept in the sitting room with her granddaughter.

Zingovo allegedly sexually abused the elderly woman on Tuesday night when she crawled to the toilet through the kitchen.
He was not asked to plead to one count of rape when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove yesterday and was remanded in custody to 12 September.

In his statement to the police, Zingovo said the complainant sneaked into his blankets and begged him to have sexual intercourse with him.
“The complainant came to where I was sleeping in the kitchen and she woke me up as she touched my manhood asking for sex. She was only wearing a petticoat,” he said.

The State is being represented by Ms Caroline Matanga.
