It was one year ago that Paul Walker was tragically lost his life when the Porsche Carrera GT business partner was driving crashed into a tree in Santa Clarita. A teary-eyed Paul Snr said Paul was so proud of his daughter, ‘‘she is incredibly intelligent and beautiful, and Paul wanted to be there for her as she grew up’’. Universal Pictures has announced they are making three more films after “Fast 7”, Paul’s last film, hits theatres in April.
Paul died halfway through filming.
Action superstar Paul Walker told his father he was ready to quit Hollywood and fast cars for his daughter Meadow just weeks before his shocking death in a fiery car crash.
“The Fast And Furious” star’s father, Paul Walker Snr has revealed exclusively to MailOnline his superstar son’s secret family decision on the eve of the first anniversary of his death, November 30, 2013.
Walker Snr claimed that his late son wasn’t happy committing to future “Fast’n’Furious” films as well as three more movies in an Agent 47 film series. The series was supposed to begin shooting this year before his untimely death.
Instead, Paul wanted to devote the next few years of his life to 15-year-old Meadow and continue to help in her development as a “bright and beautiful” teen.
The family are still in a state of shock but according to Paul Snr, they are coping as best they can. However, the talented actor, who died after his pal’s super car crashed into a tree is still very much missed.
Incredibly, Paul had also discussed ditching his love of fast cars for a more peaceful life and had re-discovered his affinity for the ocean.
Sadly, it was too late for the unassuming Californian-born self-confessed adrenaline junkie who lost his life when the Porsche Carrera GT business partner and friend Roger Rodas was driving crashed into a tree in Santa Clarita.
“Paul was planning on taking a break from starring in movies, and stepping away from Hollywood, to spend more time with Meadow,’’ a teary-eyed Paul Sr. said as he sat at his Los Angeles home
“He was so proud of her, she is incredibly intelligent and beautiful, and Paul wanted to be there for her as she grew up’’.
“In fact, he would’ve swapped his Hollywood fame for the quiet life with Meadow. Paul wasn’t big on fame and preferred to live modestly.
“But he signed on for the Agent 47 movie about a hit man, and it was already agreed that if it was successful there would be three further movies made.
“That was something he confessed to me he wished he hadn’t done because he wanted to be with Meadow,” Paul Snr divulged.
Paul Snr’s words come in the wake of an announcement by Universal Pictures that they are making three more films after Fast 7 hits cinemas in April. This spring directors finished their latest movie even though Paul died halfway through filming.
On Friday Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley confirmed the series will continue without Paul Walker, adding that the studio is planning on “at least three more” movies.
“Paul is, and always will be, an integral part of the story. But there are many other great characters, and it’s also an opportunity to introduce new characters,” Langely said.
“I think it’s still a growing franchise . . . So we think that there’s more to mine there. But we’re of course very mindful about fatigue.”
Paul Snr, his ex-wife Cheryl, Paul Jnr’s ex-wife Rebecca Soteros and Meadow are still in shock but are dealing with the grief, according to the star’s father.
He credits friends and family as the reason they’ve been able to manage their grief. Without them it would have been impossible.
He said: “It’s an ongoing process. Paul, who was such a great man first and foremost, is missed by everybody.
“Cheryl and Meadow are both coping with the loss, but that doesn’t mean it’s been an easy process to digest.
“For me it’s tough me thinking about him walking through my door . . . where is Paul when I want to hug him; it’s still hard to believe he is not around anymore . I would just like to see his face.
“He’s not around anymore but I see him, I miss him much more now.
“I can say I haven’t stopped grieving. And it’s not getting any better for me.”
He added: “We’ve been lucky that friends of Paul, as well as our own friends have come to visit us and offer their condolences.
“Those friends have helped us with the grieving process, and without them it would have been very difficult to deal with this.”
Paul, who starred in four of the “Fast & Furious” films, was also considering giving up on his love of cars for a more quiet life.
He told his dad before he died that he had been surfing again, something he hadn’t done since he was a kid, and loved being in the ocean and staring into the sea.
Paul Snr revealed his son’s knee injury convinced him that racing cars was no longer for him.
“He was bored of the car thing,” Paul Snr said.
“He actually told me, before he died, that he had rediscovered the ocean and had taken up surfing again.
“He tore his ACL in his knee and that made driving a lot more difficult for him to do.
“Paul was a free spirit – he loved being out in the ocean, staring into the abyss and found peace there.
“He would love nothing more than packing a sleeping bag in a van, sleeping out in the wild and lived in such a modest way.
“There was no Hollywood airs and graces about him, he was just so down-to-earth and really nice to everybody he ever met.”
Paul Snr remembered one occasion where his son showed his humility and his love of kids when they eating at a fast-food restaurant.
“We were at a In-N-Out Burger having some food when some kids asked if they could have their picture with him.
“He told them, ‘Of course, let me just finish my food with my pop and we will take pictures, no problem.
“After the meal, the kids came back over. Paul scooped one of them in his arms and posed happily for pictures and signed autographs.
“Paul was really so generous with his fame and loved to make his fans happy. He always gave them plenty of time.
“He was smart enough to realise that they were who made him who he was. And he was very gracious.
The ‘‘Fast & Furious’’ star died November 30 while riding as a passenger in the friend’s car on a test run on Rye Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, CA. Reports indicate that the friend lost control, hit a tree resulting in the car bursting into flames, burning both men alive
Growing up in east Los Angeles, Paul’s closest pal was a boy named Adam. Paul Snr said that his friendship with the boy epitomised what sort of person he was.
“Paul was incredibly thoughtful and his best pal, Adam, who was deaf is a great example of his character.
“Paul looked out for Adam like a brother. They would watch TV together, but Paul would always make sure that Adam could lip-read the show they were watching. If Adam gave him a nod, they would continue to watch.”
“Paul would always look out for Adam. There was a time when other kids were picking on him so Paul stepped in, and rather than say he was going to do something about it, he told the kids that were bullying Adam they should be wary of what Adan would do to them.
“Paul made them think about it and, more often than not, the kids would back away and leave Adam alone.”
During the making of the “Fast & Furious” series, Paul forged a close relationship with Tyrese Gibson and rapper Ludacris.
Paul Snr revealed that both co-stars looked up to Walker as a older brother and he kept them in-check on set.
“Tyrese, Ludacris and Paul were all very tight,” Paul Snr said.
“Tyrese and Ludacris looked up to Paul on set and even called him their older brother, Tyrese told me that.
“Paul kept them both in check if he ever felt they were being too big for their boots while they were filming and they loved him for it.”
Paul’s charity work has since come to light following his tragic death. He founded the Reach Out Worldwide charity but kept that work under the radar.
“He was so humble,” Paul Snr said. “He didn’t want thanks for it. He knew inside, without anyone knowing, what a good deed he was doing.
“I remember when he visited Haiti after the massive earthquake hit in 2010. He said to me, ‘Dad, I can’t believe people live like this, in such poverty, and I want to do everything I can to help.
“I used to tell him he was too good for this world, but he would bashfully turn away and say no.”
After Paul’s death, his daughter Meadow was involved in a custody battle between her mother Rebecca and grandmother Cheryl Walker.
Cheryl wanted full custody of her granddaughter, however Cheryl’s lawyer said that the case was dropped after an out of court deal had been struck.
Meadow moved in with her mom and is back in Hawaii.
It’s understood Cheryl has wide ranging visitation rights and Meadow visits her grandmother on regular basis with finances set aside for travel and vacations.
Paul Snr acknowledged a compromise had been reached but added: ‘As far as I’m concerned, anything involving Meadow is a private matter,’ Paul Snr said.
Cheryl ‘s lawyer, Bela Lugosi, confirmed to People Magazine the family settled the matter away from court rooms.
Meadow had been living with her mother until 2011 when she moved in with Paul. Then, due to his movie commitments around the globe, she moved in with Cheryl last year three months before his untimely death.
Meadow is set to inherit 41-year-old Paul’s entire fortune, which estimates place at around US$16 million.
On Friday Universal confirmed that the “Fast & Furious” movie franchise will continue for another three films.
Earlier this year Paul’s close friend and co-star Tyrese revealed that Paul would’ve wanted the hit series – which has generated over a billion dollars – to continue for as long as it was relevant.
Gibson defended the move to continue shooting, insisting his friend was such a big fan of the films, he would not have wanted his tragedy to bring the series to an abrupt end.
He explained: ‘‘We (the cast) just want y’all to know that Paul was so passionate about ‘Fast & the Furious’. There’s no way he would want the franchise to shut down because the movie is successful for a reason.
“If you all could just show up and look at somebody in the movie that you identify with… the global impact of the movie must continue on behalf of the franchise.” — Dailymail
