adminBeleaguered Warriors coach Ian Gorowa is refusing to submit his technical reports for the doomed 2015 Africa Cup of Nations campaign until Zifa pays him his outstanding salary, the spokesperson of the High Performance Technical Committee, Gibson Homela, has claimed.
The Warriors dream for a ticket to the Afcon finals ended in humiliation at the hands of Tanzania and Zifa have started an introspection exercise. However, the drive being spearheaded by the HPTC is being choked by Gorowa’s failure to submit the technical reports.
The South African domiciled coach failed to meet last Monday’s deadline to furnish Zifa, through its chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze, with not only the technical reports of the doomed Afcon campaign but those of the African Nations Championship campaign and several friendly matches.
The development made the inaugural HPTC meeting, at the Zifa village on Wednesday, a damp squib as Gorowa’s reports were expected to be top of the agenda.
In an interview on Thursday, Homela disclosed that his committee, which comprises of Benedict Moyo, Cosmas Zulu, Bekhi Nyoni, Wilfred Mukuna, Maxwell Jongwe, Charles Sibanda, John Phiri, Mike Ngore and Misheck Chidzambwa, is not amused by Gorowa’s antics.
“There were no reasons given on the day of the meeting but today (Thursday) I was confronted with a reason that I thought was very funny.
“I was told that the national team coach said he would not present the reports until he gets paid the money he is owed by Zifa, now that is very worrying,” he said.
Homela went on to accuse Gorowa, who could not be reached for comment, of insubordination.
“In my eyes this is tantamount to under-performing and insubordination to some extent,” said the veteran coach who is also vice-chairperson of the committee.
“The preparation of a technical report is just one thing that any professional coach should think about soon after a match but we are surprised to hear that Gorowa never submitted a technical report for all the matches he took charge of. Zifa do not even have his curriculum vitae and that is something that points to a bigger problem.
“I am reliably told that all the other coaches’ documents are in place. It is only the senior team coach’s CV that is not in place.”
Zifa have since revealed that Gorowa, who is the only national team coach yet to submit his reports, has been given a Friday deadline.
