A FATHER has been told to apply to the High Court for a review if he is not happy with the order to pay US$100 a month in maintenance.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira ruled that he should pay that particular amount every month.
Reward Chigova was taken to court by his former wife, Felistus Mudzingwa, who was demanding US$160 in child support.
Reward said he could only afford to pay US$45, plus school fees, because he was married and has another child.
“How much are you earning?” magistrate Mashavira asked him.
“I earn US$135 and $334 000 as a local truck driver,” responded Reward.
He produced his payslip which was accepted as an exhibit by the court.
Felistus objected, saying Reward drove cross border haulage trucks and earned thousands of dollars.
She said the payslip accepted by the court was fake.
She said Reward had not been taking care of his two children since they separated in April last year.
“Reward is not paying for our children’s fees and other basic needs.
“We separated last year in April and I am the one catering for all our children’s needs,” said Felistus.
Magistrate Mashavira asked Reward how much he was going to offer for his Grade 3 and ECD children and told him to calculate all their expenses.
The expenses amounted to US$100.
The magistrate ordered Reward to pay that amount every month.
