The Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has issued an urgent call for stricter public transport regulations, harsher fines and custodial sentences for lawbreaking operators.

It warned that reckless kombis and illegal “mushikashika drivers” are turning Harare’s high-density suburbs into daily danger zones, injuring innocent road users.

PAZ coordinator, Mr Tafadzwa Goliati, said the problem manifests during morning and evening rush hours in the suburbs.

“We cannot allow chaos to prevail, police must always be on top of the situation,” he said.

“To curb accidents and disorder, we need stricter fines and harsher jail sentences.”

He emphasised that there is need for better planning in Harare’s Central Business District.

“Unlike Bulawayo, Harare lacks a proper transport policy, which is exacerbating the issue,” he said.
