THE Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic road accident near Sebakwe River in Kwekwe on Tuesday which claimed 12 lives and left the nation in mourning.
In a statement, PAZ national coordinator Mr Tafadzwa Goliati conveyed the association’s condolences to the bereaved families and urged swift action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic road accident that occurred near Sebakwe River in Kwekwe, resulting in the loss of several lives,” Mr Goliati said.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to the families and loved ones of the victims.”
The accident, which is still under investigation, has reignited debate around road safety and the persistent threat posed by unregulated transport operators.
Mr Goliati said there must be urgency in addressing these issues.
“We urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and take necessary measures to improve road safety,” he said.
“We strongly believe that the issue of pirate transporters must be dealt with through deterrent laws to prevent such tragedies in the future.”
Mr Goliati also called for responsible driving and strict adherence to traffic regulations and said negligence on the roads continues to endanger innocent lives.
He pledged to continue monitoring developments surrounding the accident and to advocate for stronger protections for passengers across Zimbabwe.
Police are yet to release the full details of the crash, but preliminary reports suggest speeding and possible mechanical failure may have been contributing factors.
