PE dominate Zone 4 athletics competition

The competition attracted 14 schools which included Dzivaresekwa 2 High, Kuwadzana High 1, Allan Wilson, Cornway, Tynwald, Christ Ministries, Dzivaresekwa 1 High, Kuwadzana High 2, Warren Park, Westridge, Pinewood, Girls High, Queen Elizabeth and the hosts PE.
Participants took part in triple jump, long jump, javelin, shot putt, high jump, discus, hammer throw, medley relay and pole vault.
Prince Edward accumulated 530 points to finish in first position in the boys’ category and they were followed by Dzivarasekwa 1 High with 390 points.
Kuwadzana High 1 settled for third position with 362 points while Allan Wilson accumulated 351 points to finish in fourth place.
Dzivaresekwa 2 High were the winners in the girls’ category with 419 points and Girls High amassed 395 points to settle for second position.
Kuwadzana 1 High were placed third with 390 points and Warren Park settled for fourth position with 306 points.
The event was used to select the team that will represent the zone in the athletics competition to be held at the University of Zimbabwe next week on Friday.
Dudzai Muhomba from Prince Edward said training for the zonal competition starts this Friday at Prince Edward.
“The competition went on well, everyone invited attended and the athletes enjoyed the event.
“The event was use to select the team for the Zonal competitions.
“I think we’ve got a chance of winning as a zone because this year’s competition was more competitive than last year,” said Muhomba.
This year’s edition saw the introduction of hammer and medley relay events.
“We introduced the medley relay and hammer for the first time and the response was good.
“We did it for the first time. However, most schools do not have the equipment,” said Muhomba.
