PE win BN Invitational

Club over the weekend after beating St George’s 4-2 on penalties.
The annual tournament is held in preparation for the schools soccer season, which begins during the second term.
This year’s tournament featured 16 teams in the U-16 and U-18 age groups.
The tournament also featured Bristol Academy in the U-18 category.
Bristol Academy is based in Gweru.
In the U-16 category, Mount Pleasant emerged winners after beating Spencer Bulldogs Academy 2-0 in the final.
Earlier on the Bulldogs had knocked out DN Academy 4-3 after penalty shootout in the semi-final.
In the U-18 category, Prince Edward beat Mount Pleasant 1-0 in the semi-final and went on to meet St George’s who dismissed Sordbury High School in the other semi-final 4-3 in the penalties.
The final saw Prince Edward and St George’s playing a goalless draw before PE prevailed 4-2 in the penalty shootout lottery.
BN Academy director, Bheki Nyoni, was impressed by the teenage stars.
“The tournament went well and the boys worked hard as they were also preparing for the upcoming Schools’ soccer season.
“The players need to be identified at grassroots level and from what I have seen the future for our football looks bright.
“Teams should also take time to see these youngsters play as did the FC Platinum team which sent their developmental manager Jairos Tapera for scouting.”
FC Platinum’s U-19 team, which is in Division Two, already have the services of BN Academy products in goalkeeper Kudzai Munapi and striker Makusha Makusha who has scored five goals in five matches.
BN Academy have also produced players like Elijah Soko, who went to United States on a full scholarship, and has joined Seacoastal FC. Last year Musa Kolombo, one of the products of the clinics, made it into the VW team, which went to Spain. Tatenda Munapi of Prince Edward and Brian Munengwa of St George’s caught the eye with their talents.
