A man who strays into his neighbour’s property and sleeps there while semi-naked has been rebuked by the courts for his actions.

Mutare magistrate, Ms Ivy Musavengana barred Godfrey Chinyowa from harassing or threatening his neighbour, Irene Tazira.

The protection order is valid for five years. In her application, Tazira stated that Chinyowa, whom she described as a law unto himself, was in the habit of threatening, harassing and intimidating her.

She said at times, Chinyowa strays onto her property while semi-naked and sleeps there.

Tazira said Chinyowa was in default as he brags that no one has authority over him.

“He calls me a blood sucking witch and a woman of loose morals. He has ordered me to vacate my house, saying his team will give us a torrid time if l don’t do that.

“He came to my house last week and assaulted me. I even brought the torn clothes I was wearing on that day as an exhibit. He left me almost naked after beating me up,” said Tazira.

She added: “He sometimes come to sleep in my yard while semi-naked. He exposes his private parts and is very disrespectful. I cannot tolerate that. I have tried taking up the issue with the police, but he is always released without any charge. When he returns from the police station, he continues with his uncouth behaviour.

“He is a menace in our neighbourhood and most women live in fear of him as he assault and harass them.

“I am worried that he might stab me with a knife because he has a history of stabbing people in the neighbourhood. I do not want to lose my life,” said Tazira.

Ms Musavengana ordered Chinyowa not to harass, insult, intimidate or assault Tazira.
