AN Inyathi mine worker has been hospitalised after he was allegedly stabbed with an okapi knife on the head by a workmate for trying to restrain him from pummelling his love rival.
Mbalisi Tshuma, 40, a general worker at Sweetwash Mine was stabbed after he told two men who were fighting over a woman that she did not love either of them.
Oscar Moyo, 32, felt Tshuma was interfering in his issues and stabbed him and he lost consciousness after bleeding profusely.
Tshuma sustained injuries on the head and his attacker called an ambulance and disappeared from the scene.
He was rushed to Inyathi District Hospital and a police report was made leading to Moyo’s arrest.
Appearing before Bulawayo magistrate Steven Ndlovu at Inyathi court on circuit on Monday, Moyo pleaded guilty to assault charges.
“It was not my intention to hurt him. I was irked because he interfered in my argument with Itai which had nothing to do with him,” said Moyo
He was remanded in custody to November 23 as his victim’s condition is being monitored.
Prosecuting, Zivanai Hlomayi told the court that on November 14, Moyo had an argument with a man identified as Itai.
“The complainant tried to calm the misunderstanding and told the two that the girl they were fighting over didn’t love any of them. The accused was annoyed and he grabbed Tshuma by the collar,” said the prosecutor.
Moyo allegedly took an okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Tshuma on the head, the court heard.
“Realising that Tshuma was unconscious the accused phoned an ambulance and ran away,” the prosecutor added.
Tshuma was rushed to hospital and a report was made to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.
