A BRAZEN robbery occurred at Small Bridge Country Club cottages in Penhalonga on Saturday, May 10, resulting in the theft of US$570, two 40-watt lithium solar batteries, and a 20-litre diesel jerrycan.
Three unidentified men allegedly assaulted two security guards, Liberty Chimwanza and Nathan Saruvaka (48), using iron bars.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the incident occurred around 1am when the three men arrived at the cottages and attacked Chimwanza, who screamed for help.
Saruvaka attempted to intervene, but was also assaulted and tied up with rope.
“Chimwanza screamed for help to Saruvaka who was sleeping. He came out to rescue, but one of the accused attacked him and he ran away but was chased and caught. Then Chimwanza ran away. The accused men started assaulting Saruvaka with iron bars, demanding cash,” he said.
The assailants then broke into another room, where they assaulted Samuel Nyambipo (38), the finance officer, and stole the cash and other items.
The three unknown men fled the scene and Nyambipo managed to untie himself.
The matter was reported to ZRP Penhalonga.
Nothing has been recovered yet.
