ZANU-PF registered over 5 000 new members during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) held in Bulawayo, two weeks ago, in a remarkable display of political momentum.
This surge in membership, a feat not seen since the inception of the Second Republic, underscores the profound impact of President Mnangagwa’s sound and people-centred policies on the people of Zimbabwe. As citizens flock to join Zanu-PF, it is evident that the administration’s efforts to revitalise the economy and enhance social welfare have resonated with the populace.
At the heart of this political renaissance is President Mnangagwa’s strategic approach to governance, which prioritises economic stability and development. His administration’s commitment to a robust economic framework was initially manifested through the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP), which sought to stabilise the economy and lay the groundwork for sustainable growth. This initiative has since evolved into the National Development Strategies aimed at achieving Vision 2030, an aspiration for Zimbabwe to attain an upper middle-income economy.
Giving an update on the ruling party’s exhibition at ZITF, Zanu-PF spokesman, Cde Chris Mutsvangwa, said President Mnangagwa’s people-centred policies made new members flock to join Zanu-PF.
“We had more than 5 000 new members. The Trade Fair was an eye-opening experience for Zanu-PF, reflecting the populace’s desire to reconnect with the party. The Trade Fair was an eye-opening event for Zanu-PF as it came face-to-face with the enthusiasm of the populace as they sought to know more about it and, more importantly, how to join the party,” he said.
One of the most significant achievements under President Mnangagwa’s leadership has been the revitalisation of key sectors, particularly mining. The mining sector, a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s economy, has seen renewed investment and growth, attracting both local and foreign capital. This resurgence is evidenced by the increased production levels from various mining operations, contributing significantly to national revenue and job creation.
In addition to mining, President Mnangagwa has implemented a series of Presidential Schemes aimed at empowering citizens and fostering entrepreneurship. These schemes have provided crucial support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), enabling them to thrive and contribute to the economy. By creating an enabling environment for business development, the administration has demonstrated its commitment to inclusive growth, further solidifying Zanu-PF’s appeal, among voters.
Another transformative initiative is the ongoing rehabilitation of the country’s infrastructure. Under President Mnangagwa’s guidance, the Government has embarked on ambitious road rehabilitation projects, ensuring better connectivity across the nation. Improved roads not only facilitate trade but also enhance access to essential services, thereby improving the overall quality of life for citizens.
The refurbishment and construction of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport as a modern gateway to the world reflects the administration’s focus on enhancing tourism and trade. This airport not only showcases Zimbabwe’s commitment to modernity but also positions the country as a competitive player in the global market. The development of the Manhize Steel Plant, a flagship project, further exemplifies this vision. The plant is set to revolutionise the steel production landscape in Zimbabwe, creating jobs and reducing the country’s reliance on imports.
The rehabilitation of the Hwange and Kariba Power Stations is another testament to the Government’s dedication to addressing energy shortages. By investing in these critical facilities, President Mnangagwa is not only ensuring energy security but also paving the way for industrial growth. The benefits of reliable energy are far-reaching, impacting everything from manufacturing to the daily lives of citizens.
Moreover, the Government’s emphasis on agricultural productivity has yielded impressive results, particularly in wheat production and irrigation programmes. The implementation of innovative agricultural practices and the promotion of irrigation have led to bumper harvests, enhancing food security for the nation. This focus on agriculture aligns with President Mnangagwa’s philosophy of “Nyika inovakwa ne Vene Vayo” (The country is built by its people), reinforcing the idea that development must be inclusive and reflective of the needs of the populace.
The tangible results of these policies have resonated deeply with citizens, leading to a marked shift in political allegiance. As individuals witness the positive changes in their communities, many are increasingly viewing Zanu-PF as a pro-development organisation committed to their interests. The digitalisation of membership registration during the ZITF further exemplifies the party’s modernisation efforts and its responsiveness to the needs of the electorate.
In stark contrast, opposition parties in Zimbabwe have struggled to present viable alternatives. Instead of fostering constructive dialogue and development, many have resorted to denigrating the Government and calling for economic measures that have historically led to suffering among Zimbabweans. The portrayal of Zanu-PF as a party of destruction by these opposition factions has failed to resonate with a populace eager for progress and stability.
This disconnect has resulted in a growing disillusionment with opposition narratives, pushing many to align with Zanu-PF’s vision for a prosperous Zimbabwe.
The recent surge in Zanu-PF membership is not merely a reflection of political loyalty but rather an acknowledgment of the party’s tangible achievements under President Mnangagwa. As citizens experience the benefits of economic revitalisation, infrastructure development and agricultural success, the desire to associate with Zanu-PF has grown stronger. In the face of opposition failures, the ruling party has emerged as a beacon of hope and progress, demonstrating that sound governance can lead to meaningful change.
As Zimbabwe moves forward, the challenge for Zanu-PF will be to maintain this momentum and continue building on its successes. The party must remain attuned to the needs of its citizens, ensuring that the gains achieved thus far translate into sustainable development and improved living standards for all. With President Mnangagwa at the helm, Zanu-PF is poised to consolidate its support base and lead Zimbabwe towards a brighter future, reaffirming the philosophy that the country can indeed be built by its people.
