Mudarikwa urged Perego to emulate the late Tineyi Chikupo, who enjoyed performing free of charge in the village.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Matthew Perego for a job well done. Chikupo used to come here in the village and perform for free.
“When you perform in your home village free of charge, you raise the spirits of people in your area to support you. It is important to honour your people,” he said. Mudarikwa, a former music promoter, said he helped Chikupo and was ready to assist Perego.
“I spent a lot of time with him in his music career. He would spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday singing free of charge.
“Afterwards, Chikupo’s following shoot up and he became one of the top artists in the 1970s.
“So, Perego is also in the same direction,” he said.
Fans came from as far as Murewa Centre, Maramba Pfungwe and other surrounding areas to watch Perego live on stage.
