FORMER FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza registered a win on his debut as Chippa United coach in the Telkom Knockout Cup last 16 match against Bloemfontein Celtic on Tuesday at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London.
Mapeza, who joined South Africa’s Absa Premiership side earlier this month managed to give struggling Chippa their first victory since the start of the 2019/ 2020 season.
The 47-year-old gaffer’s charges sent Siwelele packing from the knockout with Lehlogonolo Masalesa finding the back of the net in the 77th minute.
Mapeza said there was still work to be done and he believed that the boys would get better as the league progresses.
“I’m happy for the boys. It brings back the confidence when we play Highlands Park this coming weekend in the league which is our biggest priority.
“With the results we got from this match, I think it will bring back the confidence to the team,” said Mapeza.
Mapeza joined the Chili boys at the beginning of this month after suddenly leaving Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League defending champions FC Platinum.
The former FC Platinum coach won two back-to-back league titles, the Chibuku Super Cup and the Castle Challenge Cup before reaching the group stages of the 2018 Confederation of African Football (Caf) Champions League.
His five-year fruitful reign with the platinum miners also saw him being named Castle Lager Coach of the Year twice in a row.
