Sungura musician Peter Moyo has ventured into poultry as a fall back plan.
Moyo who has used the plot left by his father, Tongai, said he wanted to be the biggest chicken supplier in Midlands Province.“When you still have the chance of drawing crowds you need to invest the money and this is one of the projects that I have started as a business,” he said.
The “Young Igwe” as Moyo is fondly known said the project would sustain the family as well as financing some other projects lined up at the farm.
“We started with 400 chicks because other foul runs were still under construction but now they are done, we have ordered another 1 000 day-old chicks,” he said.
He has since constructed four foul runs at the farm opposite to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The musician believes that the poultry project will finance the piggery project he is set to start next month.
“As you can see we have already started constructing pig sties and we are hoping that the profits from the chickens will finance the new project,” he said.
He said he has plans to build some structures before he moves in at the farm.
“It is cheaper for me to stay at the farm than to go there everyday,” he said.
The musician has joined other musicians like Suluman Chimbetu and Alick Macheso who successfully ventured into farming apart from music.
