EXTRA-MILE LEISURE SPOT, along Masvingo Road, came alive at the weekend when Peter “Young Igwe” Moyo gave sungura fans a rare treat. Backed by Utakataka Express, the 24-year-old singer joined forces with upcoming musician Simon Mutambi and the Cobra Kings.
The gig, which was well attended, started with a performance by Mutambi, an upcoming sungura artiste from Beatrice.
Mutambi proved beyond doubt that he has what it takes to make it big in the sungura genre given the platform to prove himself.
From his performance, his hits “Shara Wega”, “Upenyu Ivhiri” and “Rhoda Mutsvuku” proved to be fans’ favourite as they ignited a party mood among the fans.
The tempo was upped when heir to the Dhewa legacy took the stage and was welcomed by a deafening applause from his fans.
The Young Igwe started churning out songs from his debut album “Mushonga Mukuru”, which is doing well on the market.
He kept revellers on their feet for the better part of the night as he belted hits like “Konzi”, “Tutsotso”, “Mushonga Mukuru” and “Mwari Wenyasha”, among others, which are proving to be very popular.
He later switched to his late father’s songs which also proved to be the fans’ favourite.
With hits like “Ndiro Yababa”, “Nhasi Ndadiwa” and “Ndiye Munyengeri” among others, the talented singer treated his fans till the early hours of the following day.
The presence of Shiga Shiga, former chanter of the Utakataka Express but now plying his trade with Mutodi Express, got tongues waging with some fans hoping that he would join his colleagues on stage. He, however, did not go on stage.
