WARRIORS’ legend Peter Ndlovu has praised Khama Billiat’s return to the national team while urging former captain Knowledge Musona to come out of retirement and potentially break his goal-scoring record.
Billiat was on target when the Warriors beat Namibia 0-1 at Orlando Stadium on Thursday. Ndlovu remains the Warriors’ most capped player with 100 appearances and 38 goals in all competitions for the national team. Musona, aged 34, is the nearest challenger with 24 goals.
“Khama, your country needed you. Thanks for returning, boy. Your confidence boosts the team immensely. Players like Wales have improved vastly under your guidance. We hope Knowledge will give us another 10 games to surpass my record,” Ndlovu said on his X account.

This was after Billiat had posted on the same site thanking Ndlovu for his continuous support of the Warriors.
Musona, who retired in 2022 aged 31, reportedly turned down coach Michael Nees’ request to return to international football. However, Nees is still trying to convince him. Musona retired a few months after Khama Billiat had also announced his exit from the national team. The German coach has been in touch with Musona, who retired from national duty on May 19, 2022 and, according to Nees, the talks are progressing well.
There were reports in April this year that Musona was contemplating a return to the Warriors but nothing official was announced. However, Khama has since returned from retirement. Ndlovu, the Warriors’ all-time top scorer, wants Musona back for a few more games.

At club level, Musona has played for Kaizer Chiefs, 1899 Hoffenheim, Anderlecht and is now in Saudi Arabia. Musona is one of the four players to have scored a hat-trick for the Warriors. The others are Peter Ndlovu, Vitalis Takawira and Ovidy Karuru.
Musona featured in three Afcon tournaments, leading the team in two editions after taking over captaincy in 2017 following Willard Katsande’s retirement.

Zimbabwe had since February 24, 2022, been frozen out of the international game after Fifa suspended the country along with Kenya, with the world controlling body citing third-party interference with the operations of the national football associations in both countries. Fifa has since lifted the ban on both countries.
