Petrol inferno kills woman

The fire then set ablaze the whole  grocery shop where the fuel was stored.

The now deceased, Ms Mavis Gumbo, who  sustained severe burns in the incident which occurred on Wednesday last week, later died on admission to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo on Friday.

The woman’s relative, Mr Ranson Gumbo, said several grocery items were also lost in the petrol fire incident.

“We were trading fuel in our shop and there were two drums full of fuel when the incident occurred.

“The now deceased was siphoning petrol from one of the drums when the whole building later went up in flames,” he said.

Mr Gumbo said Mavis, who was alone in the shop, later managed to get out of the building after sustaining severe  burns.
