THE distribution of seed under the Pfumvudza/Intwasa Scheme to various GMB depots is ongoing while fertiliser dispatch is expected to gather momentum beginning next week, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka told the National Assembly yesterday.
He said this while responding to questions from legislators during the House’s question and answer session.
“As we are speaking now the distribution of seed and chemicals is ongoing and we expect that by the middle of this month the inputs would be ready for onward distribution to the Wards.
“I however, admit that we are a bit behind in terms of distribution of fertilisers but we hope that there will be an improvement beginning next week,” he said.
At least three million households are expected to benefit from the Pfumvudza/Intwasa Input Scheme.
Dr Masuka added that peri-urban households will not benefit from the inputs Scheme this year.
“It was an exception that they benefited last year because we were coming out of a devastating drought so, the President said they should also benefit.
“However, this year, we revert to the norm where we distribute inputs to rural households, A1 farmers and small-scale farmers,” Dr Masuka said.
He said transport problems that have dogged inputs distribution in the past would be a thing of the past following the procurement of 20 trucks for the GMB by President Mnangagwa to assist in transporting grain and inputs.
