Phone “thief” arrested for assaulting victim

A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Tshabalala suburb in Bulawayo was arrested for assaulting a woman who confronted him for allegedly stealing her cellphone.

Lesley Kalaluka appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Learnear Khumalo charged with assault.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence. He was remanded in custody for trial.

Circumstances are that on 29 September 2024 at around 2020hours at Drop Mark Beer Garden, in Tshabalala Melinda Matho (35) confronted the accused over her cellphone which he had stolen.

The confrontation led Kalaluka to assault the complainant by pushing her down on the bar steps and hitting her several times on the face with fists.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person.
