Family spokesperson Mrs Esnath Salani-Bonde, sister to Jimmy, descri-bed her brother as a man who was dedicated to his family and work.
“My brother was a quiet man who hated violence. He was the eldest in our family and always unified us and assisted everyone to have a better life,” said Mrs Bonde.
She said Salani would be buried today at 11am at Glen Forest Cemetery.
Zimbabwe Union of Journalists acting president Michael Chideme said Jimmy’s death left a void in the media fraternity, which would be difficult to fill.
“The Union would like to express its condolences to the Salani family, Zimpapers and the media industry following the death of veteran photographer, Jimmy Salani who had retired from the Sunday Mail,” said Chideme.
He said Jimmy would be remembered by many in journalism for nurturing talent. Chideme urged media houses to find light work for their retired experienced staffers to avoid instances where they die soon after leaving employment.
Salani joined Zimpapers in April 1978 and won several awards before he retired in February last year.
He is survived by his wife Molly, four children and two grandchildren.
