CHEGUTU Pirates have kept faith in the man who masterminded their miraculous campaign to play in the domestic Premiership for the first time in their history.

Zaire, as the Pirates are affectionately known, will be under the guidance of Day Gutu. The Pirates started their pre-season preparations last week with several of their players, who powered them to the Promised Land, part of the crew at training.

The Chegutu side beat a number of favourites, including Black Mambas, for the ticket into the top-flight league.

They ended the season unbeaten at home at their fortress at Pfupajena.

The Pirates are probably the most supported small town community club in Zimbabwe.

Club official, Kenes Salima, said everything was going according to expectations.

“We are doing well as ‘Za ire’ and we began our pre-season last week and we will engage the coach by Friday so that we map the way forward.

“We are looking forward to building from the team that got us promoted but as usual we will look for some additions.

“The coach will be engaged so that he will enlighten us on the players whom he wants to bring on board.

“There is progress and we are hopeful that we will be in the league to compete.”

The team has some players with Premiershjp experience, including veteran Simba Domingo, who had a short stint at CAPS United.
