PIT BULLS – THE AGGRESSION, THE BAN IN A NUMBER OF COUNTRIES

PIT BULLS, a collection of dog breeds that include the American Pit bull Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier, are banned in several countries around the world.

These canines are known for their muscular build, boundless energy, and loyal disposition.

However, they have also gained a notorious reputation for being aggressive and dangerous, which has led to Pit bull bans in many countries.

In this post, we’ll explore where pit bulls are banned internationally and why.

Several countries around the world have implemented Pi tbull bans to prevent potential harm to humans and other animals.

Some countries have banned the breed entirely, while others have specific regional legislation in place.

Here are some countries that have Pit bull bans:

The Netherlands: In 1993, a 100% ban on Pit bulls was implemented in the Netherlands.

France: In 2000, France enacted a total Pit bull ban in the hopes of reducing and eventually eliminating the breed from the country.

Germany: In 2001, a total Pit bull ban was enacted in Germany.

Italy: In 2004, Italy implemented a countrywide ban on Pit bulls.

Singapore: In 1991, Singapore banned any new Pit bulls from coming into the country.

Poland: In 1997, Poland implemented laws about fencing and reinforcements for Pit bulls.

Puerto Rico: In 2001, a complete Pit bull ban was implemented in Puerto Rico.

New Zealand: In 2003, New Zealand made it a law that no Pit bulls could enter the country.

Denmark: In 2010, Denmark implemented a complete ban that made it against the law to breed Pit bulls.

Venezuela: In 2014, a 100% ban on Pit bulls was implemented in Venezuela.

Other countries have specific regions with Pitbull bans, including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Jurisdictions in at least 84 countries regulate dangerous dog breeds, of which 99% include pit bull breeds, 89% mastiff/fighting breeds, 45% rottweiler breed, 35% pinscher breeds, 32% northern/spitz breeds, and 26% livestock guardian breeds.

The estimated combined population of these countries is 4.99 billion.

Notably, at least 21% (18) of countries, mainly in Northern Europe and parts of Asia, have adopted a new national-level breed restriction or strengthened an existing one since the pandemic.3

Of the 84 countries, 21% (18) are dependencies to varying degrees, such as an autonomous country, dependent territory, or special administrative region of a sovereign state.

WHY ARE PIT BULLS BANNED?

Pit bulls are banned in many countries worldwide due to their notoriety for biting and aggressive behaviour. Some Pit bull owners use their dogs’ aggression as an advantage to make money from dog fights, which is an illegal activity and a driving force behind Pit bull bans and legislation.

Additionally, the statistics on Pit bull bites have resulted in millions of dollars in lost wages and personal injury every year in countries that have them.

The bans are implemented to protect humans and other animals from the breed’s potential harm.Tips to Keep Your Pitbull Safe and Healthy

As a Pitbull owner, you know how special your pup is. But with that specialness comes some extra responsibility. Keeping your Pitbull safe and healthy is of utmost importance.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU DO JUST THAT:

Exercise Your Pup Daily

It’s important to give your Pit bull plenty of daily exercise. Whether it’s a long walk, jog, or game of fetch, your pup will benefit from regular physical activity.

Maintain a Proper Diet

Feeding your pit bull a balanced diet is essential for its overall health and well-being. Avoid processed foods and opt for high-quality, nutrient-rich food.

Watch Out for Extreme Temperatures

Pit bulls are sensitive to extreme temperatures, so make sure to keep your pup away from both extremely hot and cold weather. If it’s very hot outside, it’s best to stay indoors with the air conditioning on. On the flip side, if it’s cold out, be sure to layer your pup up with a warm coat.

Provide Plenty of Mental Stimulation

Pitbulls need more than just physical activity; they require mental stimulation as well. Try introducing them to new toys and games or teaching them tricks! They’ll love the challenge, and you can bond in the process.

Overall, if you take the time to look after your pup, they’ll be sure to thank you with lots of love and licks! So, remember to get that exercise in, watch out for extreme temperatures, and provide plenty of mental stimulation your Pit bull will thank you. − Hepper
