THE police officer at the heart of a horrifying murder case involving a dismembered body dumped in a pit latrine has been remanded in custody as investigations into the grisly killing continue to rock the nation.
Constable Blessed Moyo, stationed at Malalume Police Base, appeared before Plumtree Magistrate Aelene Munamati on 30 May 2025 facing charges of murder. He is expected back in court on 13 June.
Prosecutor Voster Makwerere, outlined chilling details of how Moyo allegedly beat a man to death during an arrest in early 2024, then covered up the crime in the most gruesome way imaginable.
The victim, whose identity is yet to be officially confirmed, was allegedly picked up by Moyo in connection with a case of unlawful entry. But what was supposed to be a routine arrest turned into a murder mystery that has stunned even the most seasoned investigators.
Sources close to the case revealed that after the arrest, the man was never seen alive again. Rumours began circulating in the community that something sinister had happened at the police base.
The case took a dramatic turn when human remains were discovered buried in a pit latrine near Malalume Village, close to the police base where Moyo was stationed. The body had been chopped into pieces, wrapped in plastic, and shoved deep into the excrement-filled toilet.
Forensic teams were called in to exhume the remains and conduct DNA tests. Initial findings suggest the body had been in the pit for several months. The decomposed state made identification difficult, but key evidence has since pointed to Moyo’s involvement.
Investigators believe Moyo allegedly used brute force on the suspect, resulting in the man’s death. In a bid to cover up the killing, he is accused of dismembering the body and dumping it into the toilet under the cover of darkness.
The shocking discovery has triggered outrage in the local community and beyond, with residents calling for justice and transparency.
“We trusted him to protect us. Instead, he turned out to be a monster,” said one local resident. “How can someone do this and pretend nothing happened?”
Moyo remains in custody as the state builds its case. The National Prosecuting Authority has indicated that more charges could follow depending on the outcome of forensic reports and ongoing investigations.
As the nation waits for answers, the horror of this case serves as a grim reminder that sometimes, the law enforcers themselves can become lawbreakers in the most horrifying ways. —@mthabisi_mthire
