HIGHLANDERS boss Kenneth Mhlope says the domestic Premiership needs a strong Dynamos.
He also believes a strong CAPS United is needed for the success of the PSL.
“There’s no doubt about it, the league needs a strong Dynamos, a viable CAPS United, and a competitive Highlanders,” Mhlope told Zimpapers Sports Hub.
“It goes without saying, Highlanders are one of the anchor clubs of the PSL. We have a duty to drive this league forward.”
He is happy with the vibe which Scottland and MWOS have brought into the league.
“The emergence of clubs like MWOS and Scottland has brought excitement. That’s the kind of energy we need,” said Mhlope.
Mhlope is set to become the PSL’s new vice-chairperson, without even breaking a sweat.
He has been nominated unopposed ahead of the July elections.
And he’s wasting no time laying down his vision for a stronger local game.
Mhlope, who took over the reins at Highlanders in February last year, says it’s time the league’s oldest club led from the front as Zimbabwean football stares down one of its biggest make-or-break periods.
“The nomination was by colleagues who desire to incorporate the experience and value of Highlanders in the leadership of the collective,” Mhlope told Zimpapers Sports Hub.”
“The league is a family, 18 equals rising and falling together. My role is to amplify that collective voice and push us forward.”
Bosso have been powered by a US$250,000 injection from businessman Wicknell Chivayo and are leading the pack among the traditional giants Dynamos and CAPS United.
The PSL top job will be a hotly-contested affair with Simba Bhora’s Isaiah Mpfurutsa, Masimba Chihowa of Manica Diamonds and FC Platinum’s Dumisani Sisale all gunning for the chairmanship.
Mhlope is already halfway into the boardroom without a contest.
He wants to use his new seat to secure better sponsorship deals and reignite the league’s lost fire.
