Paul Mundandi in Zvishavane
FC Platinum president George Mawere has vowed that his club will win two or three major trophies in the 2016 season.
The Chibuku Super Cup and top eight Easycall Cup were the major tournaments of 2015, which means Mawere is promising that FC Platinum will clean sweep the major cup tournaments, including the Premier Soccer League.
FC Platinum were knocked out of the Chibuku Super Cup by Dynamos in the quarter-finals last year and were also bundled out of the Easycall Cup at the same stage by eventual winners Highlanders.
The Zvishavane-based side went on to finish third in the league behind champions Chicken Inn and runners-up Dynamos.
“I promise that nobody will suffer from high blood pressure this season as the team will do its best. My promise is that we’ll win two or three trophies,” said Mawere.
He urged the Zvishavane community to rally behind the team for them to continue enjoying Premiership football.
“We’re the only Zvishavane team in the PSL and without the support of the community, we can’t survive for a season,” he said.
Coach Norman Mapeza has brought some hope to the Zvishavane side and has snatched promising stars in the form of Nqobizitha Masuku, Ronald Chinyengetere, Takudzwa Mahori, Wallace Magalane, Last Sithole, Ishmael Wadi and Hilary Bakacheza in a bid to fulfil the board’s dream of securing silverware.
The team has also welcomed back Walter Musona after six months on the sidelines due to his move to Slovakia side SK Senec with midfield ace Wisdom Mutasa going sour. The pair returned home alleging racism.
The miners have also promoted Emmaculate Mawuna and Shepard Dinyero from their juniors into the first team.
Mawuna, 18, a national Under-20 player, is blessed with great vision and dribbling skills.
They have wielded the axe on Allan Gahadzikwa, Stephen Sibanda, Phillimon Mudune, Farayi Mususunye and former Golden Boot Winner Nelson Maziwisa.
Emmanuel Mandiranga and Nigel Papias will be loaned out to get more time, while utility player Raymond Sibanda is still to know his fate.
FC Platinum is regarded as one of the best run clubs in the country and remunerates its players well.
