Plumtree-Mutare highway on target

executive Mr Frank Chitukutuku said the project was progressing well.

“We expect the project to be fully complete by April 2014.
“Most areas that needed to be rehabilitated particularly from Plumtree to Harare have actually been completed.  Only small areas that require special attention remain, otherwise we are on schedule,” said Mr Chitukutuku.

He said rehabilitation on the Harare to Mutare Road was also moving well.
Mr Chitukutuku said work on three-toll plaza’s along the Plumtree-Mutare highway should be completed soon.

“The Figtree toll plaza is almost ready and will be opened soon as well as the Norton and Rusape toll plazas.
“So we are happy with the progress and everything is on course,” he said.

The rehabilitation and widening of the highway into a modern highway to conform with Sadc protocols started in March last year.
The road is being widened from the current seven metres to 10 metres.

Its lifespan would be extended by 10 years and with good maintenance the road might last up to 20 years.
Group Five of South Africa is partnering Zinara in the project.
