Plumtree team settles for Figtree Stadium

Raymond Jaravaza .
NEW Plumtree team, Mainline FC, making a debut season in the Zifa Bulawayo Province Division Two league, have settled for Figtree Stadium as their preferred home ground.

Initially, the club wanted to use Dingimuzi Stadium in Plumtree for their home matches but the venue would have been too far for most of the teams that are based in Bulawayo.

Zifa Bulawayo Province Division Two rules and regulations state that a match venue must be within a 40-kilometre radius of Bulawayo city.

a?We inspected Figtree Stadium and made a few recommendations that Mainline FC must meet before the ground can be certified to host division two matches.

a?For instance the length of the pitch must be adjusted and the club is attending to that. The ground should be ready before the season starts after the Easter holidays,a? said league chairman Francis Ntuta.

The team is coached by Charlton Gumede, a holder of a Zifa Level Four Certificate.

A squad of 20 players, scouted in Plumtree town and surrounding rural areas, has been assembled with 10 more players expected to be added in the transfer window period in July.

The club is sponsored by Plumtree businessman Mkhulunyelwa Nkomo and South Africa-based Jonathan Ndlovu.

Ndlovu also sponsors the annual Jonah Football Tournament that was won by Kombani at Nyabane in Bulilima in the 2016 edition.

The emergence of a new Plumtree based team in a professional league should bring relieve to the football starved supporters in the border town who have not watched competitive matches since Kombami FC folded three years ago.
