B-Metro Comment: MAY THE REAL CHRISTIANS STAND UP

The love of money and the love of power in the church have tainted the pulpit and turned the house of God into a political theatre.

In real politics, where political persuasions are declared and known, we have become so accustomed to the brickbats but not so with the unrefined politics by men of the cloth where we see so-called Christians spending more time in the courts seeking to bar one another from leading or even attending so and soas church.

The Bible tells us of a church whose ultimate leader is God, whose rules determine how it should be run so that it accomplishes its mission of saving lost souls(John 3:16).

Recent reports of happenings in churches reveal a house in strife, torment for the congregants who are forced to choose sides, at times a?the light of the worlda?A seeking the world to show it the light.

We have had long drawn out battles over control of churches that in some instances have been treated as family institutions, after the death of founders.

We have also had the breakdown of relations between those in the leadership of the church and also the break-up of the relationship between a leader and their spouse threatening to tear apart their congregations resulting in court action.

Even sports organisations have clauses in their constitutions barring the use of the courts to resolve matters that can be resolved within such bodies as such action is deemed to bring the game into disrepute.A We believe the countless court actions against church leaders and by church leaders have brought a lot of shame upon the house of God and that the church should pray harder for such occurrences not to recur lest the lost lose faith in their only hope.

While it is folly to expect democracy in the church due to the nature of religion and how God chooses his leadership, it is equally not a wise decision for churches to continuously resort to the courts to bar people they went to fish in the world from the church.

It is like a hospital admitting patients and then chasing them away before completion of their treatment programme and then expecting more patients to still have faith in it and comeA for treatment of their own conditions.

We have had estranged church leadersa wives turning their husbandas churches into Sunday drama by attacking them while in the pulpit all in a bid to embarrass them.

Then just recently we had a bishop taking 38 of his congregants to court seeking to stop them from attending his services after booing him during worship.

This is the level of disdain that the latter day a?christiana? has for the house of God, and the powerlessness of the leadership is quite telling too.

Christian leaders need to look into their actions and seriously take stock and take corrective action.

Choose now therefore, if you be for strife or peace, despair or hope, hate or love.A The leader of the church is watching and He shall one day sit in judgment. .
