PM’s SA lover speaks out

Shilubane unsuccessfully sought to stop PM Tsvangirai’s official wedding to Elizabeth Macheka a fortnight ago, saying the premier promised to marry her.
The application was, however, thrown out for lack of merit.

The wedding was stopped after the courts ruled that Mr Tsvangirai was married to Locardia Karimatsenga Tembo under customary law.
Ms Shilubane said she was moving on and had no regrets.
“If somebody tells you to be patient, you will be patient. That is what I did,” the 35-year-old woman said.
She claims her relationship with PM Tsvangirai started in September 2009.

She claims receiving a phone message terminating the relationship from an unregistered number.
“I received a message from an unknown number that said the relationship was terminated because of distances (sic),” she said.
She said efforts to call Mr Tsvangirai were in vain as the latter was not responding to her calls.

“I wanted him (sic) to sit down with me and say, ‘Nosi, this is what is happening’; you know, that decency, at least, I think he owed it to me,” she said.
“He is supposed to be an example to other people and young kids (sic) . . . At an age of 60 you dump with SMSs. Then what would the young ones do?”
She told the TV station that although smarting from her experiences feeling “used and abused”, she wished PM Tsvangirai well even if he chooses to marry someone else.

Ms Shilubane is one of the many women linked to Mr Tsvangirai since his wife Susan died in a car crash in 2009.
Loreta Nyathi, Arikana Chihombori and Aquilina Pamberi are among the women that have been prominently reported on.

PM Tsvangirai’s wedding was, however, reduced to a formal introduction of Ms Macheka to his family.
