Pocock, Folau given green light to face Argentina

David Pocock and Israel Folau have been cleared to start for Australia in their World Cup semi-final showdown with Argentina at Twickenham tomorrow.

The influential pair have both been struggling to overcome injuries — with breakdown specialist Pocock hampered by a calf strain he picked up in the victory over Wales a fortnight ago and full-back Folau sidelined by an ankle problem.

Both men have been unable to train fully this week, but such is their value to the Wallabies that head coach Michael Cheika has opted to gamble by pitching them back into his starting XV.

However, prop Scott Sio has failed to recover from an elbow injury so in his absence, James Slipper will continue to deputise at loosehead.

When the line-up is revealed this afternoon, Pocock will be reinstated at No 8, in place of Ben McCalman, while Folau’s return sees Kurtley Beale drop back down to the replacements’ bench.

Argentina were due to name their team for the match last night. — SportsMail
