South Africa.
It was curated by Indra Wussow, director of the Sylt Foundation based in Johannesburg, and Zimbabwean artiste Chirikure Chirikure.
“Through the work of poetry, we dare a comparative analysis over its importance for cultural identity and change. The cores of the festival are readings, workshops, reflections and performances with 25 renowned poets,” Chirikure said.
This two-week celebration will focus not only on how poets use language, but how they adapt and change it.
The team will be performing in northern South Africa before coming to Zimbabwe.
“They will be performing in South Africa’s major cities, starting with Johannesburg on April 21, followed by Mafikeng on 22 and return to Johannesburg on 23-25. On April 26, the team will travel to Polokwane for yet another electrifying act before ending it in Makhado on 27,” said Wussow.
The voyage will cross the Limpopo to Zimbabwe led by Chirikure Chirikure and Mbizo Chirasha for yet another trail-blazing show set for Hifa.
It is a follow-up on the immensely successful festival that took place in Indonesia in 2012. Participants include Toeti Herty from Indonesia, Sujata Bhatt (India), Chirikure Chirikure (Zimbabwe) and Mindy Zhang (China) among others.
The event consists of internal workshops and topics such as “Lived Diversity or Paradise Lost”? “The Global World of Poetry” or “Lost in Translation”, among others, will be discussed.
