A POETRY slam ,dubbed ‘Speak Out,’ begins in Harare today.

It is aimed at encouraging men to share their personal struggles surrounding mental well-being.

Poets, from different backgrounds, will take to the stage, using their voices to highlight societal norms and challenges that men face regarding their health.

The organisers want to create a safe environment for men to share their stories in the hope of fostering a culture of compassion and understanding.

Renowned poet, Hey Hey Preacher, will perform as a special guest.

Competitors will be vying for monetary prizes.

Organiser of the slam, Listen Mutashu, said societal expectations and stereotypes hinder men from seeking help and expressing their emotions.

“Through the power of poetry, we hope to create a safe space for men to share their stories, break down barriers and foster a culture of compassion and understanding.

“This slam will be a catalyst for change, sparking ongoing conversations and collective action to address mental health challenges,” Mutashu said.
